About Us

Troop 424 offers a wide range of outdoor activities for boys ages 10-17 including archery, camping, hiking, backpacking, skiing and fishing. The Scouts BSA program reinforces citizenship, family values, and builds character. One of Troop 424’s strengths is that we are boy led, meaning that the Scouts create and run the scouting program.

After Scouts have been given the proper guidance from those with experience and know-how, they take their own lead, going places they've never gone, seeing things they've never seen, and diving into the rugged world of outdoor adventure all while relying on teamwork and character to accomplish what everyone else thinks is impossible.

Our History

Troop 424 was chartered by Forest Park Church in October, 2012 providing our Scouts with a new location and excellent facilities. We have been continuously registered with the National Capital Area Council since 1976.  That's over 40 years and makes it one of the oldest units in the Council!

According to NCAC and troop records, Troop 424 is actually made up of two different troops - Troop 424 and Troop 1776. Both troops were originally chartered in the early 1970s (Troop 1776 in 1970) and merged in the early 2000’s due to declining membership in both organizations. Troop 1776 was chartered by the St. Charles Sportsman’s Club while Troop 424 was chartered by the Bannister Neighborhood Association. After the merger, the troop remained under the stewardship of the St. Charles Sportsman’s Club as Troop 424. Troop 424 was rechartered by Forest Park Church in 2012.

Troop 424 would like to express its deep appreciation to the St. Charles Sportsman’s Club for their support over the past several years and would like to acknowledge the SCSC’s positive impact on the lives of countless Scouts in Charles County
